Business NSW

Business NSW continues to advocate for you in securing better business conditions across the state.

September saw a busy month of advocacy for Business NSW with the launch of Housing Now! – our alliance to help solve the state’s housing crisis by supporting the delivery of new homes. Labor also handed down its first NSW State Budget amid a challenging business environment. Keep reading for a full debrief on what the budget means for business.

Several important events were held across the state in September with both MPs and our members in attendance – including a breakfast roundtable in Orange, Fixing the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme report launch and the Growing Business Tech Summit.

NSW Full State Budget Analysis

The state government have delivered a budget strong on housing, energy, and regional NSW. Business NSW believes that this budget is fiscally responsible and hopes the government’s prediction of a much-needed surplus next year is realised. We also commend the NSW Government for following through on the election promise of no new business taxes.

Fixing the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme

NSW’s beleaguered workers comp scheme has failed injured workers, stifled businesses and needs a major overhaul. The Fixing the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme report, released last week by Business NSW, is the culmination of a years-long investigation into how to make the system better for employers and workers.

Workplace compliance
Respect@Work – Law changes from December

As part of the ongoing response to the Sex Discrimination Commissioners Respect@Work Report, the Federal Government changed the law in late 2022. Known as positive duty, it requires all employers to take reasonable steps to eliminate sexual harassment from occurring in the workplace. Are you compliant? Call or book a spot with our workplace advice line to map out your next steps.

Many businesses are not able to procure staff simply because workers can’t afford to live nearby. This is why Business NSW has launched Housing Now! – a somewhat unlikely alliance of business, unions, universities and interest groups who have come together to help solve the state’s housing crisis and support the delivery of more than 300,000 new homes.
